Seminar on Economics of Garbage Disposal -27 July 2017
Sri Lanka Economic Association in collaboration with the Department of Economics, University of Colombo was successfully conducted the Seminar on Economics of Garbage Disposal because;
“…Garbage disposal has become a critical national issue that demands an urgent solution. So far mismanaged, it has brought about dangerously spreading killer epidemic-dengue and other health hazards and urban garbage mountains also dangerous to human life. Government vows not to leave this problem to the future government….”
This seminar was facilitated to address the key critical issue at present, explored the potential of turning garbage into wealth by realizing its economic value, issues associated with enabling policy environment to attract investments for solid waist solutions. Therefore it was a forum for policy makers, policy advisers, planners, Academics, those involved in garbage disposal in the Central, Provincial and Local Government set up and the Civil society organizations. There were lots of positive ideas to be implemented to use garbage as a raw material to generate different products which can be very useful in many ways and a few negative ideas on waste disposal.
